IMQG Presents - First Friday August 3rd - Looking for Quilt Submissions

IMQG and Crimson Tate Presents First Friday Ice Cream Sew-cial!
On August 3rd Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild (IMQG) & Crimson Tate will be hosting First Friday Quilt Ice Cream Sew-cial. Quilts will be displayed along the cultural trail as well as in Crimson Tate. This event will showcase modern quilting in a way never before experienced in Indianapolis. There will be ice cream and socializing with sewists. Yes this says QUILTS + ICE CREAM - you know you want to attend now. IMQG is seeking modern quilts to feature in the Ice Cream Sew-cial event.
The Rules:
  • Quilters can submit 1 or many quilts. We encourage multiple submissions! We think it would be spectacular to have our quilts go from Crimson Tate all the way to College Ave. Wouldn’t that be a sight?
  • Quilts must be complete – no pins, no quilt tops, no hanging threads.
  • Quilts must be clean – we’d rather not have all those dog hairs displayed in the show. ;)
  • Quilts must be modern. (See description).
  • Quilts should have a “tweet” description of 140 characters or less. Please tag your quilt so it can be returned to the rightful owner.
  • Quilts should be dropped off with a 4x6 photo of the sewist.  This can also be emailed.
  • Quilts submitted should have a completed Quilt Submission Form (Click Here).
  • Quilts dropped off by 7/20 will be prepared to be shown at the July 21st IMQG Meeting.
  • Quilts must be dropped off by 7/28/2012 at Crimson Tate 845 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis. Please tag your quilt so it can be returned to the rightful owner.
  • Quilts will be displayed on First Friday along the Cultural Trail and in Crimson Tate.
  • Quilts can be picked up on or after August 4th.
This celebratory display of modern quilts should be fresh and now. Not sure your quilt is modern? Feel free to chat with the advisory of IMQG or Crimson Tate to determine whether or not your quilt will fulfill the objective of the group show. Email us at for more information or with questions.
Modern Quilts can be defined as follows:
  • Make primarily functional quilts but place a large emphasis on the design and art of quilt making
  • Contain reinterpreted traditional blocks
  •  Embrace simplicity and minimalism
  • Utilize alternative block structures or lack of visible block structure
  • Frequently use improvisational piecing
  • Contain bold colors, on trend color combinations and with bold graphic prints
  • Limited use of batiks, civil war prints and novelty graphics fabrics
  • Use asymmetry in quilt design
  • Rely less on repetition and on the interaction of quilt block motifs
Quilters are encouraged to come to First Friday invite their families and friends to experience Modern Quilting Sew-cial and enjoy some Ice Cream - Quilts will be on display on 8/3 from 6-9.
Big thanks to Crimson Tate for offering the use the the adorable store and for being our partner and champion for this event.
